When I was at school, emo music was my absolute jam - from Jimmy to Brand New, the nihilism over spiky guitars and major chord progressions felt like the perfect expression of my teenage angst. Meanwhile, Arlo Parks would have been learning how to read at primary school, and over 10 years later, is now being hailed as the sound of emo 2.0. With her despondent and articulate lyrics that perfectly encapsulate the teenage experience today, sung over catchy chilled out grooves, I wholly agree with this assessment. There’s even a nod to Gerard Way in there! I have had this song on repeat, and the perfect octave of the chorus is delicious to sing along to.
